Good breakdown of the channel-fragmentation problem. Two things that decide whether a unified inbox actually holds up once real traffic hits it: (1) identity resolution — the same person is a WhatsApp phone number, an Instagram-scoped user id, and an anonymous web session, and none of them join naturally, so pick a merge key (verified email/phone from the first order) and store the channel ids as aliases rather than trying to dedupe later; (2) idempotency on inbound webhooks — Meta redelivers, so key on the platform message id and upsert, otherwise a retry storm turns into duplicate AI replies to a customer, which is much worse than a slow reply. The other thing worth designing in from day one is the 24-hour WhatsApp customer-service window: outside it you can only send approved templates, so your agent needs to know when it's allowed to speak freely versus when it has to fall back — plus a clean handoff state where the bot stops replying the moment a human picks up the thread.
