People are googling Claude Code skills that slow the agent down
#claudecode#AI#opensource#Programming

You sit down to ship a feature. The first query is often a skill that will argue with you until the plan is settled.

On August 17, 2026, that search was Grill Me. It sat at the top of the Trending in search rail on Skillselion, ranked by rising Google queries against a catalog of 81,246 listings (60,011 skills) and 147,648,453 recorded installs.

This piece syndicates our guide Which Claude Code skills are people googling that slow the agent down?. Numbers are from the live catalog API that day. Disclosure: we run Skillselion.

Grill Me is the search, Find Skills is the gravity well

Grill Me is Matt Pocock's planning skill: 876,468 installs, 219,406 GitHub stars, search up 3,250%. You invoke /grill-me when you would rather answer questions now than unwind a wrong architecture at 11pm. Repo: github.com/mattpocock/skills.

Find Skills (vercel-labs/skills) held 2,980,173 installs and 29,037 stars, search up 20%. Repo: github.com/vercel-labs/skills. The most installed skill in this set finds other skills.

Sort the same seven by stars and Grill Me leads. Stars would hide the skill that developers run. Security Review is the useful exception on the rail: 14,882 installs next to an almost-three-million-install finder. Developers googled a check they do not yet run on most sessions.

The rest of the rail

Same snapshot. Live install counts. Each name is the Skillselion listing; the repo is on GitHub.

  • Impeccable (pbakaus/impeccable): 235,708 installs, search up 140%. GitHub. A taste layer for default agent UI.

  • Caveman (juliusbrussee/caveman): 438,679 installs, search up 90%. GitHub. Token bills and scroll fatigue are the same complaint.

  • Frontend Design (anthropics/skills): 784,427 installs, search up 70%. GitHub. Pair it with the frontend design best list.

  • Security Review (affaan-m/ecc): 14,882 installs. GitHub. Developers googled it before it showed up in the install ranking.

  • Ui Ux Pro Max: 318,475 installs, search up 30%. GitHub. Another taste pack. See the frontend-design category.

What to do with a pile

Browse the skills index by installs. MCP servers are a separate index at /mcp (those listings do not carry install counts; see the MCP Server Census). Frozen studies sit on Research. More how-tos: Guides.

Type /grill-me when the agent is about to write code against a plan you have not agreed on. Pull one skill mid-task. Skillselion's MCP is claude mcp add skillselion -- npx -y skillselion-mcp (skillselion-mcp).

If you only install one thing from this snapshot, install the finder or the interviewer, then come back for taste when the UI looks like a template.

Independent AI coding skills directory

We run Skillselion, an independent directory of Claude Code, Codex and Cursor extensions ranked by real install counts. We track thousands of skills, MCP servers and plugins, refreshed daily from skills.sh, GitHub and the MCP registries, and write up what the install data actually shows. Every number we publish is verifiable against our live catalog at https://skillselion.com. Not affiliated with any vendor we cover.
